Mental Health Day- Suicide Prevention- QPR- Question, Persuade, Refer

Presenter: Jean Ann Lambert, Community Educator Director, Mental Health America of SC

DESCRIPTION:  Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying “Yes” to saving the life of a friend or family member. QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — these 3 simple but powerful steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. QPR stands for QUESTION, learning how and feeling more confident in asking the hard question “Are you thinking of suicide”, PERSUADE, persuading someone to get help, and REFER, knowing resources and where to refer a person in crisis.

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide and can help save a life.

Jean Ann’s Bio: Jean Ann received her Masters degree at USC School of Medicine in Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychiatric Studies. She is currently the Community Resource Director at Mental Health America of S.C. Her job consists of Education, supporting our programs statewide, and Client Services.
