The York Middle School HOSA chapter in York, SC recently participated in a field trip with twenty chapter members and three advisors. They began their day visiting White Oak Manor in York, a long-term care center. The students played Bingo with the residents and spent time visiting them.
The students and advisors then visited The Applied Technology Center in Rock Hill. They were met by the HOSA chapter members at The Applied Technology Center who demonstrated a number of the competitive events in which they participated at the State Leadership Conference. The York Middle School students had a chance to actually participate in a mock HOSA Bowl with the high school students.
Kyara Livingston, immediate past Post-Secondary Vice-President for South Carolina HOSA, provided a presentation for the students about her experiences in HOSA throughout the past few years. Kyara encouraged the students to focus on their middle school and high school classes. She advised them to maintain high grades and take advanced classes as they were available.
We are beyond excited to begin the inaugural year of the first HOSA Chapter in York Middle School history. At our initial interest meeting, we had 12 very eager 7th and 8th grade students eagerly participating in an interactive leadership simulation, a technology-based HOSA scavenger hunt, and a very special visit from two awesome HOSA alumni. Since the initial meeting, interest in joining HOSA has grown, and one student was so excited that he suggested a weekly meeting of the group rather than the planned monthly gathering. We look forward to the future of HOSA at York Middle School!

The first meeting between the Aiken County Career and Technology Career Center HOSA and our newest middle school affiliate from Aiken County School District-Langley Bath Clearwater Middle School HOSA. The senior HOSA students hosted the middle school group for a field trip on Friday March 27, 2015. There were 23 middle school HOSA students along with their advisors, Dana Chipley and Elaine Smoak that spent over 2 hours with the ACCTC HOSA group. The middle school students were engaged in many hands on activities that included: first aid, vital signs, PPE’s, competitive events demonstration and preparation in CERT and Health Career Displays. This is the first of many joint events between the two groups.
